GW26 Preview

Hi guys, this is more of a placeholder in case you want to talk amongst yourselves... but of course, don't forget that international duty will keep your Socceroos and All Whites out of action this week, and remember Wellington and Jets don't play!

Hal News

Hi managers,

I'm sorry to let you know that I'm more or less done for the year.

Other commitments have grown recently and there's less time for Hal at the moment. With just a few weeks left in the season, there is little room for long-term strategies, it's more about playing hit-or-miss with your last few transfers. That's not to say these moves won't be decisive or don't need to be well thought out, just that I feel that the trade off between the time I need to put in here and the trade off for you guys has diminished to the point that I can let it go for the season.

I'll let you speculate whether this has anything to do with my slide down the rankings leaving me bitter and disillusioned.

There's still points of interest like who is available and who is looking good under a new coach, so feel free to discuss it with fellow managers in the comments below. Good luck.

Til next time,

Hal

GW23 Team News and Preview

No team sheets and not much of a post at all this week because things are pretty quiet and changes from last week's teams obvious - at least in terms of the key fantasy players.

Guys like Archie Thompson and Gerhardt are back in - A-League Ins and Outs tells the story.

Major outs are R Griffiths at Newcastle (sold) and his team-mates Heskey and Bridges, who have been rested for a week after their double gameweek exertions. So the Jets front four will be something like Goodwin-Cooper-Virgili behind Taggart.

Their defence could get shuffled around with Chapman and Neville back in the squad, and the incumbents suffering from travel fatigue.

Ryall is suspended for Sydney so Grant probably goes to right back, with McFlynn and Abbas coming into midfield to cover for him and Reid.

Central Coast also had a midweek fixture but I expect their team for the Wanderers showdown will be pretty similar to the side that beat Victory 6-2 last Saturday - Arnold rested some of his older players in midweek and cut down on gametime on the likes of Duke and McGlinchey so it appears they'll start. Impressive young striker Duke is a pretty tasty option to bring into your team for the rest of the season at the expense of McBreen, especially since he has taken the veteran's place at the pointy end of the Mariners' formation.

Two other young guns, Gamiero (WP) and Juric (AU) have also shown they are worth a sneaky look.

Oh Captain My Captain

It's tough with CCMvWSW because six of your best players are immediately put into doubt. CCM are so strong at home but this will be their biggest test yet, so it's too unpredictable. FYI, I'm putting all my WSW players on the bench this week.

Victory at home to a tired Jets side that doesn't travel well anyway looks like the best bet, especially with Thompson back in the frame. I'm back Rojas to get back into form.

GW22 Team sheets + Ermahgerd, Derbahl Ghermwerk

The stakes are getting higher and the results are getting crazier as the A-League nears its climax and teams vie desperately in the races for top spot and 5th and 6th.

No risk is too much at this stage of the season - pick a player you're sure will get minutes, check his team's fixtures, and hope for the best. There are a few new strikers around if you're sniffing for something different, and I'll detail them below.

Wellington host the Jets in midweek so load up on either team for some free points - both have fairly good home fixtures on the weekend before the midweek meeting in NZ. Newcastle are in the better form so they might be the better bet. Be aware that both teams don't play in GW26 due to this fixture being brought forward, but that's a good few gameweeks away.

One thing to note is that home form is playing a huge part at the moment so when considering who to buy and also who to bench, focus on that aspect of the fixtures.

GW21 Preview and Team SHEETS

Another coach bites the dust, some new players are signed and suddenly there's only SEVEN gameweeks left in the regular season.

It is that time of the season when you start looking at the overall ladder and your private leagues and wondering how high you can aim, and how many risks you have to take to get there. You can't make up a lot of ground having the same players as everyone else, and there's a short enough time remaining in the season that having a few risky options isn't going to hurt you in the long run.
